I have not found it yet but I think that there is something in Jewish law that when there is a Jewish community in a town or a city that there needs to be a Kosher Chinese restaurant. I was up in Westchester County today for a meeting late in the morning. When the meeting was done it was time for lunch and I took a short drive to the Eden Wok Restaurant. The Eden Wok is located at 1327 North Avenue in New Rochelle and has a nice feel to it. The place was completely empty however, but that may be due to the fact that I was there at high noon.
On the table there were the traditional goodies like the pickled vegetables and the chow mein noodles accompanied by some duck sauce. The menu is pretty extensive but being that it was lunch, I decided to head for the lunch specials. I went with something that I usually don’t order: the sweet and sour chicken. I also got the won-ton soup and white rice.
First came the soup. While the won-ton was tasty, the broth didn’t have much flavor at all. Maybe it didn’t have enough time to simmer. I don’t know and I’m willing to give the benefit of the doubt. As soon as I was finished with the soup the main dish came out. The chicken was pretty tasty and it seemed to be real chicken and not chicken and fat that you get in some places. The sweet and sour sauce was, well, sweet and sour and not too thick or thin. There were some chunks of pineapple in the sauce which was a nice touch. The white rice was also good and cooked perfectly with no clumps and not the least bit sticky.
Overall it was a pretty good lunch. I’d stay away from the soup, but if you order anything else you will be happy with your meal.
