Basil – Brooklyn, NY

by aaron on December 8, 2010

Tucked away in Crown Heights is a restaurant that really needs to be known about. That place is Basil. Brooklyn isn’t a place that you would usually associate with good restaurants but Basil breaks that mold.

The food here is good, the service friendly and my personal favorite, the kitchen is open so you can see what’s going on.

There is one confusing thing about the menu. In the appetizers they have Basil Fries and for dessert they have basil ice cream. The fries are your standard french fries and the ice cream has basil in it! I have to tell you that I didn’t think that it would be good but it was. I think that the fries would be good with some basil on them as well. The other desserts were good as well although the chocolate cake was on the rich side. Some people like that but I can’t handle that rich any more.

The rest of the food is just as delicious as the desserts. I had one of their Pizzas and others in my party had so pasta.

You really should give Basil a try.

Taam China – Brookline, MA

by aaron on November 25, 2010

Two weeks ago, I was up in the Boston area staying in Brookline. That is where the majority of the Jewish population lives and where most of the restaurants are located. Since I was only there for overnight I only had one place to go to a review. That place turned out to be Taam China.

It is your typical chinese restaurant and the service is kind of average. The food is good and one of my favorites they do really well, the scallion pancake. What makes it really good is the plum dipping sauce that they serve along with the pancake. The other things that were ordered were good. I went with the vegetables in garlic sauce

and Hopita went with the Kung Pao Tofu.

To wrap this up, Taam China isn’t a great place to eat but if you have a craving for Chinese food while you are in the Boston area then Taam China will fit the bill.

The Kitchen Table Restaurant – Mountain View, CA

July 23, 2010

I’m in Northern California pretty often to visit the mother ship for my day job and finding Kosher food near San Jose can be a bit of a challenge. That is why I was so happy when The Kitchen Table Restaurant opened its doors last year and I have to say that it’s one of [...]

Pomegranate Bistro – Potomac, MD

July 18, 2010

Tucked away in the Maryland section of the DC area, there is a nice little place to eat called The Pomegranate Bistro. I had the chance a while ago to try out their lunch service. I think that the best way to describe the place is enjoyable environment, good food mediocre service. I ordered the lunch [...]

The MIlky Way – Pittsburgh, PA

April 26, 2010

Now the last real restaurant in Pittsburgh, the Milky way is your basic Pizza shop and a little more. They have your regular pizza shop food but they also have items on the menu that are designed for the vegan or those allergic to dairy products. The food is very fresh and well made. The [...]

Aaron & Ari's – Pittsburgh, PA

February 25, 2010

There aren’t that many Kosher places to eat in my home town, Pittsburgh. The “fancy” sit down place (Pinati’s) closed down last year and that left two places that are more “fast food” types of places (well, two and a half if you count the Dunkin’ Donuts). Aaron & Ari’s is one of the two [...]

Amba – Oakland, CA

February 10, 2010

Let’s be honest, most falafel places are dives. Although the food may be good, they aren’t the kind of places that you would usually take a business associate for lunch. That is where Amba located in Oakland, CA is different. Although it’s not a Michelin Star place, it is the antithesis of most falafel places. [...]
