Last week while I was in Philadelphia enjoying a meal at Max & David’s, I received a text message from one of my spies. It seems that there may be a new Kosher place to eat in Pittsburgh. I hope to have some pictures and maybe a review next week.

I’m in Northern California pretty often to visit the mother ship for my day job and finding Kosher food near San Jose can be a bit of a challenge. That is why I was so happy when The Kitchen Table Restaurant opened its doors last year and I have to say that it’s one of my favorite places to eat anywhere that I travel. The wait staff is friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu and the specials that they are having. For this review I ordered the Minestrone Soup, Chicken Pot Pie and for dessert I had the Crème brûlée.

I’m a big fan of Minestrone soup and this one didn’t disappoint. It was full of vegetables and tasted wonderful. The only thing that I can say is that it seemed like it had a little more pepper than it should have.

Then came the chicken pot pie. I am usually not a chicken pot pie kind of guy but this was really good. The one thing that I learned is that once you open up the pie there is a lot of heat trapped in there so be careful.

Then it was on to dessert and the Crème brûlée. To be honest, I never had Crème brûlée before so I didn’t know what to expect. The top was nice and hard but the custard underneath seemed to be a little underdone. Maybe that it the way that its supposed to be, I’m not sure.

Over all eating at The Kitchen Table Restaurant is a wonderful experience.

Pomegranate Bistro – Potomac, MD

July 18, 2010

Tucked away in the Maryland section of the DC area, there is a nice little place to eat called The Pomegranate Bistro. I had the chance a while ago to try out their lunch service. I think that the best way to describe the place is enjoyable environment, good food mediocre service. I ordered the lunch [...]

Max and David's – Philadelphia, PA

May 4, 2010

I love finding new restaurants where you’d least expect them and I found one in Philadelphia called Max and David’s. If you are in the Philadelphia area for business this is a place that you can take clients or others and not be embarrassed by the looks. The place is in a strip mall in [...]

The MIlky Way – Pittsburgh, PA

April 26, 2010

Now the last real restaurant in Pittsburgh, the Milky way is your basic Pizza shop and a little more. They have your regular pizza shop food but they also have items on the menu that are designed for the vegan or those allergic to dairy products. The food is very fresh and well made. The [...]

Hamifgash – Philadelphia, PA

March 16, 2010

On the other side of the sate of Pennsylvania, we have the city of Philadelphia. The kosher food scene here is a little more vibrant than the scene in Pittsburgh with a good sit down restaurant and several other places. One of those “other” places is Hamifgash Restaurant in the jewelry section of Center City. [...]

Aaron & Ari's – Pittsburgh, PA

February 25, 2010

There aren’t that many Kosher places to eat in my home town, Pittsburgh. The “fancy” sit down place (Pinati’s) closed down last year and that left two places that are more “fast food” types of places (well, two and a half if you count the Dunkin’ Donuts). Aaron & Ari’s is one of the two [...]

Amba – Oakland, CA

February 10, 2010

Let’s be honest, most falafel places are dives. Although the food may be good, they aren’t the kind of places that you would usually take a business associate for lunch. That is where Amba located in Oakland, CA is different. Although it’s not a Michelin Star place, it is the antithesis of most falafel places. [...]

A word about Kashrus

February 9, 2010

I want to give a quick and brief disclaimer. We here at thekoshertraveler.com get the majority of where we should review from the wonderful database that Shamash provides. Just like Shamash, we don’t vouch for the accuracy of the kashrus organization which supervises the restaurant. If you are unsure about the level of kashrus, please [...]

Eden Wok – New Rochelle, NY

February 4, 2010

I have not found it yet but I think that there is something in Jewish law that when there is a Jewish community in a town or a city that there needs to be a Kosher Chinese restaurant. I was up in Westchester County today for a meeting late in the morning. When the meeting [...]
