There was a lot of good news for DC this week when it comes to Kosher food. First there is a new restaurant that opened this week in an old location. Distrikt Bistro opened this week in the JCC. Having looked at the menu, I am very excited to try this place out. A hat tip to Dani over at yeahthatskosher.com for the news.
The second exciting news is that DC may get it’s very own Kosher food truck. I say may because there is no information in the article about who is going to be supervision on the truck. However the fact that Spike Mendelshon would be involved shows that Kosher food continues to go upscale. Thanks to Tom Bridge from We Love DC for sharing the news with me.

Tucked away in Crown Heights is a restaurant that really needs to be known about. That place is Basil. Brooklyn isn’t a place that you would usually associate with good restaurants but Basil breaks that mold.
The food here is good, the service friendly and my personal favorite, the kitchen is open so you can see what’s going on.

There is one confusing thing about the menu. In the appetizers they have Basil Fries and for dessert they have basil ice cream. The fries are your standard french fries and the ice cream has basil in it! I have to tell you that I didn’t think that it would be good but it was. I think that the fries would be good with some basil on them as well. The other desserts were good as well although the chocolate cake was on the rich side. Some people like that but I can’t handle that rich any more.

The rest of the food is just as delicious as the desserts. I had one of their Pizzas and others in my party had so pasta.

You really should give Basil a try.
